Whale Watching in Haleiwa: The Humpbacks Are Singing Off the North Shore

Turn up your volume — that is a humpback. As seen on our Instagram this week, sunset over Haleiwa Harbor can look quiet from the dock, but under the surface whale season is already loud. Recent posts from Hawaii Whale Tale Tours have carried real humpback songs, the same singing our guests hear live when we drop our onboard hydrophone over the side off the North Shore.

What we are hearing and seeing

Whale season runs October through March on Oahu, and the early-season story out of Haleiwa is sound as much as sight. On our private whale tours we slow down, listen first, and let the hydrophone bring the humpbacks' songs right onto the boat — no other boat crowding the moment, just your crew and the whales. Recent trips and this week's social posts have focused on exactly that: live songs at sunset, calm private water, and the reminder that the best whale watching in Haleiwa is as much about hearing as watching.

That does not mean your eyes get a break. On the water you can see whales, sharks, and turtles if they choose to show themselves — and occasionally a rare endangered Hawaiian monk seal. Every trip is different, and we keep it honest that way: nature sets the show, we put you in the right place for it, privately, with six guests max.
